A library of publications and assets

Get access to a series of exclusive studies, reports, white papers, and publications produced by Committees and Working Groups of the FTTH Council Europe, addressing relevant topics for the industry such as: FTTH networks as green assets in the context of EU taxonomy, decommissioning of legacy copper networks, how to accelerate FTTH deployment with IT, broadband technologies ranking, investment trends, and much more.

Access to sector database

As a participant in the FTTH Eco Platform, you gain exclusive access to a comprehensive database of sector carbon intensity data, an essential resource for accurate sustainability reporting and emissions reduction strategies. This database provides carbon intensity metrics in two key formats:

  • per household (kg CO₂ equivalent per household)
  • per product (derived from Life Cycle Assessment)

How is the database used

The Carbon Intensity data is calculated using a straightforward tool developed by the FTTH Council Europe. This tool is an Excel-based model that operates solely through formulas, without any macros. Users populate the sheet with data from Scope 1, Scope 2, and select subcategories of Scope 3 (to prevent double counting), along with the volume of products sold. The tool then generates the Carbon Intensity data, which is subsequently shared with the individual responsible for the Sustainability Committee.

How is confidentiality respected

The platform safeguards sensitive data, maintaining confidentiality of sales figures and aligning with the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD): the calculation process is fully automated, and the only data required for reporting are the figures expressed in kg CO₂ eq/Household, which are the sole values to be disclosed. Sales figures remain strictly confidential and are not shared under any circumstances.

By leveraging this tool, members can benchmark their carbon footprint, contribute to industry-wide ESG best practices, and drive sustainable transformation in fibre network deployment.

Toovalu Impact Software

Additionally, participants benefit from preferential access to the Toovalu Impact Software, a cloud-based GHG assessment tool that streamlines carbon footprint analysis. This platform enables seamless data collection, automatic conversion into carbon weight, and advanced filtering for visibility into Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. With tailor-made indicators and dashboards, organizations can monitor their impact, define transition scenarios, and build action plans for sustainability. The FTTH Council Europe also facilitates an industry-wide observatory, tracking progress in emissions reduction and ESG best practices to inform policymakers and drive meaningful change across the fibre sector.

Access to sector observatory

A key benefit of the FTTH Eco Platform is access to the dedicated Sector Observatory, a powerful tool designed to track and analyze the industry's progress in reducing carbon emissions. By aggregating data from across the FTTH value chain, the observatory provides a comprehensive view of carbon intensity per household and product, enabling companies to benchmark their performance against industry trends. Participants contribute data annually using a streamlined reporting process, ensuring consistency and accuracy in carbon footprint assessments. While individual company data remains strictly confidential, the observatory publishes aggregated insights, highlighting minimum and maximum values, to foster transparency without compromising business-sensitive information. By engaging with the Sector Observatory, members not only enhance their own sustainability strategies but also help shape industry-wide best practices and inform policymakers on the sector’s environmental impact.

When do we collect data

You will be asked to report when your company enters the program, or at the end of the academy, and then once of year, at the end of Q1. You will receive an email, from which you will be able to download the latest version of the Carbon Intensity tool. By filling the tool, you will receive the Carbon Intensity of your activity. Those figures shall be shared with the responsible of the FTTH Eco Platform, within the Sustainability committee.

How do we share the results

Individual participant data is not disclosed. Instead, data from the same products, provided by various participants, is aggregated. This approach enables the FTTH Council to present a range, including minimum and maximum values, within the observatory without associating the information with specific companies.
